TF 2669 HORNCASTLE BULL RING (east side) 7/27 The Bull Hotel with integral shop 7.12.66 'Inspirations' and "The Autoshop" to right with Assembly Room above (formerly listed as No 13, No 15 and G.V. II Bull Hotel) Public house with Assembly Rooms and 2 shops C16, late C18, c.1800, late C19, C20. Colourwashed and rendered brick. Pantile roofs with moulded stone eaves, on west front, south-east range hipped to east, 2 gable stacks and 2 ridge stacks. U-plan. 2 storeys, 6 bay west front of c.1800 with first and second floor bands. Carriage archway to the right with segmental head, keystone, moulded imposts and chamfered jambs. C20 shop front to right of no interest with central deepset glazing bar door. 2 shallow canted bay windows to left of carriage archway, each with 3 plain sashes divided by plain pilasters and with dentillated entablature above. 6 plain sashes above with moulded architraves. Roundel set between second and third windows from the left, with stucco relief of a prancing bull. 2 bay front to right with C20 shop front of no interest with central deepset glazed door flanked by plate windows. Assembly room window above, a tripartite glazing bar sash with segmental head and ornate traceried fanlight. 2 glazing bar sashes above, both with segmental heads. Interior of Assembly Room with delicate moulded cornice painted gold and 2 gold roundels in ceiling. C20 murals. Public bar in north range with heavily beamed ceiling. South- east range with ornate late C19 or C20 tie-beam roof. Late C18 south-east range with 3 bay north front with doorway to left with blocked semi-circular head and plank door. Doorway to right with semi-circular head with plain fanlight and double stable doors. Further west at first floor level, a tripartite glazing bar sash with segmental head and ornate traceried fanlight. Small C20 casement beyond. 6 bay south front of north-east range with doorway to right with segmental head and plank door. Doorway to left with semi-circular head, plain fanlight and plank door. 2 light casement beyond with segmental head. Single glazing bar sash to left and doorway with plank door beyond. Mid C18 bow window with glazing bars underneath C20 bridge connecting north and south ranges. C16 bridge to west with beams exposed. East front with tripartite glazing bar sash and C18 balustrade embedded in wall below. Listing NGR: TF2603469614
