Description

Archaeological excavations were undertaken prior to an extension to the quarry. The excavations were carried out in two phases. Topsoil stripping of Area 1 (circa 2000m squared) took place in March, followed by three weeks of excavation. Topsoil stripping of the remainder of the site (circa 1.6ha) took place in May, foolowed by a week of survey in May, and two weeks of excavation in May and June. A total of 1.8ha was stripped, of which circa 2900m were archaeologically investigated in detail, comprising circa 16% of the total site.{1}
