Description

Two trial trenches were excavated in advance of the proposed construction of a block of flats. A sequence of deposits showing the reclamation of marsh land by waste dumping from the 15th to the 19th centuries was uncovered. Earlier peat deposits were also encountered and a radio carbon date from a piece of wood showed that these began forming during the late Bronze Age/early Iron Age. {1}{2}
