Full Description
Three sherds of later medieval Bourne-type pottery were identified (but not retained) in this location in May 2013, during a site visit conducted to assess the impact of proposed residential development. The sherds very likely formed part of manuring scatters, deposited during past agricultural activity. {1}
Subsequent trial trenching, conducted in September 2014, recorded the remains of two broad ditches in this area. Both ditches were aligned on a roughly east to west axis, and were thought to represent former boundary or drainage ditches. Finds of 12th to 14th century medieval pottery were recovered from the fills of both features, along with a small quantity of animal bone. The pottery assemblage comprised sherds from a variety of different fabrics and forms, including pieces of Bourne-type ware, Stamford ware, and East Lincolnshire Quartz and Chalk ware. {2}{3}
