Full Description
Building of stone construction, with a datestone marked 1859. This is probably the school masters house. The brick-built school is attached to the rear. It is now the Village Hall. {1}
Both the 1905 and the 1887 OS map mark it as a school. {2}{3}
Records from the Lincolnshire Archives corroborate the fact that the school was built in 1859, as a National School. It became a council school around 1911 (when it became known as Hemswell and Harpswell Council School) and was known from 1946 as Hemswell and Harpswell County School or Hemswell County School. From 1940 senior children were transferred to the senior school at Kirton. The school was closed on 25th March 1970, with the children transferred to Willoughton County School and Hemswell RAF County School. {4}
