Full Description
This building is a highly confusing hybrid. It is likely to have been a schoolmaster's home or private residence prior to being modified into a school. It has been raised (likely in the late 19th Century) but has a much earlier stone shell, possibly late 18th Century/early 19th Century. The stone walls have been modified considerably too. {1}
White's 1856 Directory of Lincolnshire has been consulted but neither a school nor a schoolmaster is present in the village. {2}
The 1887 and the 1906 Ordnance Survey map of the village both depict this building as a school. {3}{4}
Records from the Lincolnshire Archives suggest that the school was 'recognised' as a Church of England Public Elementary school in 1873 and note that it 'appears' to have been closed in the summer of 1934, meaning that this date is inconclusive. {5}
