White's 1856 Directory of Lincolnshire states that the Waddingham Free School had been founded in 1719 through the will of a local James Thompson and it was endowed with 21 acres of land (which was subsequently let for £400 per annum). The current building is a rebuild of the original school, completed in 1830. This is corroborated by a datestone on the building. {1}{2} The school is present on both the 1887 and 1906 Ordnance Survey maps of the village. {3}{4} Records in the Lincolnshire archives note that the school was transferred to the newly formed Waddingham School Board in 1877. It became Waddingham Council School in 1903, and Waddingham County School c.1947. Senior pupils were transferred to the new Kirton Lindsey Senior Council School from 1 April 1940. {5} The building ceased to be used as the main Waddingham County Primary school at some point in the 1960s, whereby the school was transferred to new premises on the same street. However, it was still in usage as a school, possibly as a constituent part of the new Waddington County Primary school. {6} It was still in use as a school in 1983, however, by 2011, it had gone out of use and it currently seems to be abandoned. {7}{8}{9}
