Full Description

A 'lolly-pop' shaped, standing stone sculpture, on land at Wood Lodge. The stone was moved to this location by the landowner, but was originally found quite some distance away, on land to the south of the A1 road, to the west of Foston (at grid reference SK 8461 4299). The exact date of the sculpture is not known, although a possible medieval or Roman date has been suggested. It is thought that it may have functioned as a possible boundary or grave marker, although this interpretation is quite tentative. The stone shows even tooling marks on the display surfaces, and considerable weathering in places, suggesting it has been exposed to the elements for quite some time. {1}
