Almshouses marked on the Ordnance Survey map. {1} The Old Bede Houses, also known as Hickson's Almshouses, were originally built in about 1640 for 6 poor people with money from a bequest by Richard Hickson. The six bedehouses were rebuilt in 1839 in Belton Estate style. They were converted to three dwellings in about 1970 and are still almshouses (2002) for local people over 60 years of age and with genuine need. {2}{3}
