Full Description

TO THE NORTH OF THE SALTERN SITE (PRN 33109) IS A COMPLEX OF ROMAN HUT/HOUSE SITES (3 DEFINITE SITES) IN A CLEARLY DEFINED AREA 140M BY 85M. THERE IS MUCH STONE (2 PIECES HAVE MARKINGS), FLUE TILE, ROOF TILE AND A FEW FRAGMENTS OF GLASS, PLUS MUCH POTTERY INCLUDING SAMIAN, COLOUR-COATED WARE, GREYWARE, AND SHELLY WARE. {1} IN 1978, A ROMANO-BRITISH WELL WAS EXPOSED DURING CUTTING OF A NEW DYKE JUST WEST OF THE CAR DYKE AT THE EAST END OF THE SITE, AT TF122271. ANIMAL BONES WERE FOUND CLOSE BY, WITH A POTTERY AND TILE SCATTER TO THE WEST. {2}{3}
