Full Description
THE SITE OF THE CHURCH OF ST THOMAS;MAYBE A MANORIAL CHAPEL. THE CHAPEL OF NORTHOLME BELONGED BEFORE THE REFORMATION TO KYME PRIORY AND IT WAS STILL STANDING AT THE TIME OF THE PROTECTORATE. A COTTAGE ADJOINING THE BURIAL GROUND WAS PROBABLY BUILT OUT OF MATERIALS OF THE CHAPEL. THE SITE IS NOW USED AS AN ADDITIONAL CEMETERY ADJOINING THE GRAVEYARD AND A GRAVE DIGGER RECALLS HEAVY BUILDING STONE FOUND WHEN DIGGING FOR GRAVES. {1}{2}{3}
