Full Description
A large earthwork mound, to the north-east of South Willingham. Its exact origins is uncertain, but it may possibly be the remains of a Neolithic long barrow. The mound is about 90m long, and orientated on a roughly west-north-west to east-south-east axis. Its south-eastern end is narrower.
This mound is mentioned in the book 'Rambles in Lincolnshire' by Bernard Reeves published in 1936, a guide book by the London and North Eastern Railway company containing a number of rambles between railway stations. One of the walks from Market Rasen to Donnington-on-Bain reads ' . . . to the second turning on the left. Follow this [Moors Lane] to the first lane on the right. At the bottom, with the huge earth mound in front, turn left and follow the path to South Walk Farm'. {1}
