Full Description
Cropmarks of a probable Bronze Age bowl barrow, identified on aerial photographs examined as part of the National Mapping Programme. {1}
The monument includes the buried remains of a Bronze Age bowl barrow adjacent to a Neolithic long barrow (see PRN 43178), situated below the summit of a plateau above the source of the River Lud. Although the barrow mounds have been reduced by ploughing and cannot now be seen on the ground, they are visible from the air as cropmarks. The intervening area of ground between the two barrows, which will contain evidence of ritual activities associated with the construction and use of these barrows, is included in the scheduling. The bowl barrow is 60m east-north-east of the long barrow. The bowl barrow mound is 25m in diameter and is defined by a circular quarry ditch. For more details see scheduling document 29703. {2}
