Full Description

On the first edition Ordnance Survey 1 inch to the mile map of 1824 a tumulus is marked here. Traces of it could still be seen in 1930 but it had been ploughed right down. Partly excavated in 1931-32 by Ethel Rudkin (and A L Armstrong). Proved to be a limestone outcrop with a 'hut site' on it, with a clay floor. A small collection of pottery consists of 10 medieval sherds - possibly Norman. {1}{2}{3}{4}{5} There are rough notes and sketch plans on the excavation from Armstrong's notebook in the HER Blyborough parish file. {6}
