Full Description

'Old quarry' is depicted here on the 1956 6 inch Ordnance Survey map. {1} The site is first depicted on the 1st edition OS County Series map, where it is listed as a 'Quarry', possibly indicating that the site was still in use, or only recently abandoned at the time of the survey. {2} The quarry is believed to have been re-opened during the Second World War, when chalk was extracted to build a new runway at Binbrook airfield. The quarry was backfilled shortly afterwards, and the site has since been used to house aviation communications equipment, installed c.1980. {3}
