Monument record MLI53790 - Bronze Age Bowl Barrow, Riby Grove Farm
Summary
Bronze Age bowl barrow, 650m south-south-west of Riby Grove Farm.
Type and Period (1)
- BOWL BARROW (Bronze Age - 2200 BC to 801 BC)
Protected Status/Designation
Full Description
Cropmark of a possible Bronze Age round barrow. {1}
Scheduled along with the adjacent Neolithic long barrow (see MLI52457). {2}
An amendment to the scheduling was made in July 2021, to more accurately draw the protected area around the surviving remains. The bowl barrow appears on more recent aerial photography as clearly defined cropmarks and soilmarks, and as a very slight earthwork. It lies 13m to the north-east of the southern end of the adjacent long barrow. The bowl barrow's encircling ditch has a diameter of approximately 30m overall and material quarried from this ditch would have been used for the construction of the barrow mound. The mound has, however, been reduced by ploughing and is indistinguishable from the spread of the long barrow mound. {3}
