Full Description
An archaeological watching brief and selected excavation was undertaken on a plot of land at Backgate, Cowbit. The watching brief and excavation identified a number of medieval features dating to the 12th to 14th century, predominantly in the form of linear boundary or drainage ditches and sub-circular pits. The features, particularly the pits, may indicate that the area may have been gardens and back plots in the medieval period, when houses might have fronted onto the River Welland. {1}{2}
