PRN 45911 War memorial by Sir Ninian Comper in 1919, constructed in ashlar in the form of a medieval churchyard cross. It is inscribed with the words ' To the Men of Alford who gave their lives in the Great War 1914-19'. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1} Designed by John Ninian Comper, the Alford war memorial is an eleven feet (three metres) tall tapering octagonal column. It is made of Clipsham stone and topped with an ornate cross. It sits on a rectangular base and three diagonal steps. Its west side holds a carved laurel wreath and inscriptions. It was dedicated in 1919 in order to commemorate those who died in the First World War. {2}
