This is the earliest chapel in Alford, dating from 1795. It was extended in 1845 and a new chapel was attatched in 1876. {1}{2}{3}
The Congregational Church is a minor landmark feature at the junction of Hamilton Road and Chauntry Road. It is constructed of red brick with decorative brickwork and a small hexagonal spire. The nonconformist chapel was visited as part of a survey of nonconformist chapels in East Lindsey District. {4}{5}{6}
The history of the building and its various pastors was researched in 2016, after the chapel had closed in 2012. Construction of the original chapel began in December 1795, with the first meeting taking place on the 12th February 1797. This original building was a two-bay, single-storey structure made of red brick. An extension was added to the north of this original structure in 1845 as the congregation grew, and a much larger chapel, built of red brick with yellow decorative brickwork, was added to the south of the orignial building in 1876.
