PRN 13872 A woad mill with associated buildings including a terrace of cottages occupied by the woad workers is shown on maps and plans of the 1840s, and presumably existed for some time before that. It was destroyed to make way for the railway in 1847 or 1848, and the business seems to have been declining before then given the dwindling numbers of workers dwelling in the cottages. The mill processed woad, via a complex seven stage procedure, to be used as a dye. Woad plants may have been grown in a nearby field. {1}
