Full Description
Excavation of three evaluation trenches at 74 Newport, in March 2008, revealed some post-medieval features and finds. Trench one, located in the south-west of the evaluation area, contained a robber pit or gully with 18th to 19th century pottery within it. Trench three revealed a cobbled surface with a fragment of 19th to 20th century tile.
A subsequent watching brief was undertaken in September 2008, during the excavation of foundations trenches of a new dwelling on this site. The work revealed a quarry and limestone footings that appear to relate to the post-medieval to modern existing boundary wall. {1}{2}
