Full Description
Tydd St Mary airfield or landing ground is a First World War military airfield. It was opened in the summer of 1916 and in August 1917 'B' flight of 51 (Home Defence) Squadron was based here. Tydd St Mary was closed down soon after May 1919 when the Squadron moved to Sutton Farm. The aerodrome was built into an existing farm complex and covered about 50 hectares. Its exact extent is unknown but it stood to the south of South Holland Main Drain to the north-east of Tydd St Mary village. In about 1982 one of the two hangars that were erected on the site survived and was in use as an agricultural store. The building is no longer present. {1}
