Abstract/Summary
Report on the excavation of four trial trenches, dug to inform proposed residential development on land at 15 Abbey Road, Bardney. No archaeological features, deposits or finds were encountered. A brief photographic record was also made of a Second World War air raid shelter located on the site, to the rear of 15 Abbey Road. The shelter was built in 1939, with most of the structure partially buried underground and covered by an earthwork mound. Access was via steps on the southern side, with a series of initials carved just inside the entrance doorway likely belonging to the local residents who used the structure in 1939. The shelter had been infilled in 1998, but was more recently emptied and cleaned out by the landowner.
