Abstract/Summary
Report on a programme of historic building recording, conducted to inform the proposed conversion to residential use of a barn at Fields Farm North, 146 Bridge Road, Sutton Bridge. The surveyed building was constructed in about 1920, as part of a Government established smallholding scheme following the First World War. The principal structure is of two storeys, being built of red brick laid in English bond, and features a pitched roof of red pantiles. It originally functioned as a combination of stable block and cartshed or machinery store, with a hayloft to the first floor. Single storey extensions of timber and corrugated metal are attached to both the eastern and southern sides of the main structure. These extensions were built a few years after the construction of the main building, to add extra stabling and storage space.
