Abstract/Summary
Archive for the programme of archaeological monitoring and recording conducted during groundworks associated with the construction of new classroom extensions to the existing Sports Hall Building at the Giles Academy, Church Road, Old Leake, carried out in July and August 2019. A large and substantial infilled pond of 19th century date was identified in the southern classroom extension. The pond was seen on map regression, sometime between 1821 and 1906, and contained fragments of 19th century bottles. The extension to the north identified the cut of a Roman pit containing two sherds of Roman pottery. A second undated pit was also found in this extension. No further archaeological features were identified.
