Description
Eleven test pits were excavated in areas of proposed borrow pit extraction and flood bank construction at the Thurlby wetland creation site. These works were carried out to evaluate the suitability of underlying lias clays as material for the core of the new flood banks, as well as to test the depths of deposits in the new flood bank areas. The pits were 1.9m by 3.5m and 0.7m deep. No significant archaeological remains were encountered.{1}
