Abstract/Summary
Report on the excavation of a single trial trench, dug to inform the proposed construction of new flats on land at 1-3 Friars Lane, Lincoln. The remains of probable medieval wall foundations were revealed, sealed by layers of made-ground and midden material. An assemblage of medieval and early post-medieval ceramics was recovered from these layers, supporting the theory that this part of Lincoln had been abandoned during the 15th century. This abandonment appears to have continued until the 19th century, when remains of late 19th century buildings and activity were noted, cutting into the made-ground layers.
